Ottawa and Jermain Parks Need Your Help

Park Bench

For years Toledo has systematically cut back funding for city parks and associated recreation activities. Current funding is less than 1% of the city’s total budget! Popular programs have been eliminated, facilities closed, and needed maintenance deferred. The park bench picture at the right is an examples of the maintenance problems in Ottawa Park.

Studies have consistently shown that quality parks are a major factor in attracting skilled personnel to cities. But our parks are no longer at that level.

Amphitheater Steps Before & After

For years, your park board has been actively raising funds to support the park. We’ve sponsored the Summer Concert Series and Pumpkin a Rama, secured funds for a new floor and chiller system in the ice rink, replaced shelter roofs, contributed to the Ottawa Gate sculpture, and organized park cleanups.

In 2019, The Friends of Ottawa-Jermain Park received a $50,000 District Improvement Program grant to build a concrete walkway and entrance arch in the amphitheater. The Parks Department also donated funds to rebuild the amphitheater steps and stone walls (2nd picture). Unfortunately, these efforts alone are not enough.

Please Consider Giving

We need your support to keep our park thriving. A non-profit 501(c)3 organization has been set up to make donating to Ottawa/Jermain Parks easier and to provide sponsorship opportunities. Every dollar raised directly benefits these parks. Please consider helping out.

Please send a tax-deductible check for any amount you can contribute, made payable to Friends of Ottawa – Jermain Park. Mail it to:
